Installation of the bushing TED96804 (Manual #50)

One of the unusual suspension solutions is the control arm link in BMW 5 Series (E39, E60, E61), 6 (E63, E64), 7 (E38, E65, E66, E67), X5 (E53), Z8 (E52). The link consists of 2 metal-rubber bushings, one of which has an additional element attached in the form of a metal rod. In the case of replacing standard bushings with polyurethane ones, this original rod should be used. The polyurethane set consists of 2 elements: an external metal sleeve and a polyurethane element.

The instructions below show you how to properly replace this element.

The old bushing should be removed and then the socket should be thoroughly cleaned, remembering to keep the rod that is placed in the original bushing, as it will be reused.

The external metal sleeve is pressed into the socket after thoroughly lubricating the external surface.

The polyurethane bushing needs to be thoroughly lubricated on the outside, and then the metal sleeve needs to be pressed in until it is level.

Before installation, the indicated places should be thoroughly lubricated.

Finally, the original rod dismantled from the old bushing should be installed.
